CPR Training

WAA works with the American Heart Association video training program entitled “CPR Anytime for Family and Friends”.

“CPR Anytime” is a flexible training program that is easily implemented as a community, workplace or school program.  It is a self-directed, personal CPR training program that can be used by an individual or group setting. The core skills of CPR are taught using a 22 minute DVD and a personal manikin.  The DVD includes additional information on child CRP, choking and AEDs (automated external defibrillators; not included in the rural Peru training program).

The concept of learning using personal manikins and a video self-instruction has been studied since the mid 1990s. In these studies, personal video-based learning was compared with traditional classroom courses (for example, Heartsaver CPR). The studies showed that skills performance after learning with well-researched and validated personal programs, such as “CPR Anytime”, are equal to traditional classroom training.

The pilot training materials were donated to WAA by the University of Virginia Medical School, Charlottesville, Virginia. WAA has since obtained more training kits and replacement parts to be able to work with larger groups.

The following institutions have been trained or are scheduled to be trained in CPR:

- Escuela Plantel in the pueblo of Huarocondo

- Escuela Nuestra Senora de Fatima, Calca

- Instituto Educativo General Ollanta, Urubamba

- Instituto Educativo Divino Maestro, Urubamba

- Aldea Infantil Juan Pablo II (orphanage)

- Centro Gerontologico San Francisco de Asis (geriatric home)

- Others
